She passed on to her Savior on November 17, 1998. Bessie moved from Iowa with her parents in 1914, where they homesteaded on a ranch north of Reed Point. She passed on to her Savior on November 17, 1998. Bessie moved from Iowa with her parents in 1914, where they homesteaded on a ranch north of Reed Point. Bessie attended the local rural grade schools and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in Big Timber. She attended "Normal" training in Billings and became a teacher, teaching in several rural schools in Sweet Grass and Stillwater Counties. She was married to Oscar O. McLane on June 12, 1929. They had 62 wonderful years together. To this union were born four children: Evelyn Jean Kramer of Monte Vista, Colorado, Dale L. McLane of Costa Mesa, California, Glenn Everett McLane, who preceded his parents in death on July 11, 1942, and Don Edwin McLane of Loveland, Colorado. Bessie and her family lived on various farms in the Sweet Grass County area until moving to Big Timber in March of 1947, accepting a position with the Big Timber Grade School. In June of 1956, Bessie and her family moved to Billings to accept a position with the Billings School District. From 1968 until 1974, Bessie and Oscar were in charge of the "Camp on the Boulder". During the winter months, they traveled, visiting their family and friends, and enjoying retirement. After Oscar's death, she moved to St. John's retirement home until May 1997, when her health required more care, and she moved to Costa Mesa, California to live with her son, Dale. She spent many happy hours with Dale's family. Bessie was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. She always considered he family and church as the most important part of her life. She loved to knit and crochet and made an afghan for each of her descendants. Her survivors include her three children Evelyn, Dale and Don; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 2 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 345 Broadwater Ave. in Billings. Interment services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Mountain View cemetery in Big Timber. The casket will be closed at the church. Visitation may be made at Smith Downtown Chapel, beginning Monday, until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Contributor: Julia Kinsey (48922386)
