Description	:	Betty Ann Askew, aged 92, died peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Gordonsville, Va. after a brief illness. Betty was born on February 7, 1923 in Bluefield, W.Va., daughter of Walter and Edith Repass. Betty attended Marshall College in Huntington, W.Va. and State Teachers College (Longwood) in Farmville, Va. After graduation, she married Thomas Francis McGraw Jr. (USMC Ret.) Betty was born on February 7, 1923 in Bluefield, W.Va., daughter of Walter and Edith Repass. Betty attended Marshall College in Huntington, W.Va. and State Teachers College (Longwood) in Farmville, Va. After graduation, she married Thomas Francis McGraw Jr. (USMC Ret.) His service in the military took them to multiple states throughout the country before finally residing in Gordonsville, Va. where he passed away in 1965. Betty later married John W. "Bill" Askew of Gordonsville, Va. who passed away in 2000. During her working career she was employed by Louisa County Schools and the University of Virginia, eventually retiring from a long career in the Registrar's office. Betty was a skilled artist throughout her life with a very keen eye and talent for still life painting. She enjoyed her art as well as the many people that she trained with. In her earlier years, Betty was an avid and competitive bowler. She also enjoyed following UVA sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Betty will forever be remembered as a wonderful friend to the many that she had throughout her long life, especially those in the Gordonsville community. She always cherished her times with each and every person she met and was a master at finding the good in everyone.She leaves behind her four children, Susan McGraw, Sally Godfrey and her husband Greg, Cathy Jones and her husband Rob, and Tom McGraw and his wife Trish. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joni Pomeroy (husband Ralph Pomeroy). She also leaves behind two step daughters, Marta Browning and her husband Harold, and Anna Askew; one sister-in-law, Ann Sweets and her family; as well as 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, Va. at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 30, 2015.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to Gordonsville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 926, Gordonsville, VA 22942; or Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. Preddy Funeral Home of Gordonsville is in charge of arrangements.
