She was born in Glade on May 30, 1925, the daughter of Elvis H. and Mable Sparks McClure in Glade. She attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1942. She married Stanley Richard Dawson on Sept 22, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. Following the end of the war, they moved back to Sabetha where they enjoyed raising their family. Read More	Sabetha Herald, Wednesday, June 15th, 2005 Betty Lucille Dawson Betty Lucille Dawson, 80, died on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Sabetha Community Hospital. She was born in Glade on May 30, 1925, the daughter of Elvis H. and Mable Sparks McClure in Glade. She attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1942. She married Stanley Richard Dawson on Sept 22, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. Following the end of the war, they moved back to Sabetha where they enjoyed raising their family. Stanley died April 9, 2002. Lucille was a member of the John L. Palmer American Legion Post No. 126 Auxiliary and served as president for several years as well as committee chairperson for poppy sales and local functions. She was a member of the VFW Post No. 7285 Auxiliary and served on the Nemaha County Election Board. She was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church. For several years, Lucille was active as a Girl Scout leader and was involved in school activities, including band day chaperone, room mother, booster clubs, while her children and later her grandchildren participated. After her children were grown, she frequently traveled to visit them throughout the country. Lucille held various jobs in the community including volunteer services with the library, hospital and the schools. She owned and operated the Nemaha Drive-In for many years, she had a life-long enjoyment of movies and books. A son, John Joseph Dawson, on Oct. 2, 1955, a brother, Harold McClure, and a daughter-in-law Christine Dawson also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Mike Dawson of Sabetha; four daughters, Pat Humphrey and husband Tom of Pasco, Wash., Joni Aue and husband Weldon of Morrill, Judy Dienst and husband Jim of Dunkirk, Md., and Gayla Dawson of Washington D.C., 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister Joan McDaniel and husband Jim of Council Bluffs, Iowa, a sister-in-law Beverly DeBoer of Dyer, Ind., and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Interment was in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, John L. Palmer American Legion Post no. 126 of Sabetha, Autism Foundation, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
