Description	:	Betty Marjory Newland Baldwin, was born September 13, 1922, to William and Catherine Crossly Newland. Betty attended Neola Public and graduated from Neola High School as Valedictorian in 1939. She attended Tabor College where she received her teaching degree. While working in Chadron, Neb., at an oil refinery during World War II, she met John J. (Jack) Baldwin, an active duty member of the Marine Corps. They were married in 1943. Jack passed away in 1978. Read More	Betty Marjory Newland Baldwin, was born September 13, 1922, to William and Catherine Crossly Newland. Betty attended Neola Public and graduated from Neola High School as Valedictorian in 1939. She attended Tabor College where she received her teaching degree. While working in Chadron, Neb., at an oil refinery during World War II, she met John J. (Jack) Baldwin, an active duty member of the Marine Corps. They were married in 1943. Jack passed away in 1978. Betty began working for Farmers & Merchants State Bank in 1949 and many years later completed her service as a member of the Bank's Board of Directors in 1993. She and Jack were very involved in community affairs, participating in the planning of the first outdoor swimming pool in Neola, and the building of the medical clinic and securing a Doctor to accomodate the community. Betty and Jack were especially interested in the young people of the community and took several that needed help, into their home. Betty served as town treasurer, a member of the American Legion, Neola School board from 1959 to 1965, during which time Tri-Center School district was consolidated. She was a former school teacher at Neola, co-founder and board member of T.C. Dollars for Scholars, founded in 1991, member of First Presbyterian Church, Neola, and she even tried her hand at politics for a short period. Betty's many loves were art, reading, flowers, and research. She was instrumental in writing the Neola Centennial History Book in 1982, and was named Grand Marshall of the Neola Hoo-Doo parade in 2009. Betty was preceded in death by husband, John J. Baldwin; parents, Will and Kate; brothers, John, Donavon, and Marvin; sisters, Mary Reiber, Mildred George, Bernice Bilidt, Ruth Dose, and Dorothy who died at the age of two. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
