Description	:	Betty R. Heezen, 83, of Plankinton, S.D., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plankinton, with burial in Mizpah Cemetery. Heezen, 83, of Plankinton, S.D., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plankinton, with burial in Mizpah Cemetery. Betty was born July 7, 1924 in rural Plankinton to Juul and Inger (Christensen) Sorenson. She was baptized November 2, 1924 in the name of the Tribune God at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stickney. She was confirmed July 3, 1938 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Plankinton. She attended country school during her elementary years and graduated from Plankinton High School in 1942. She attended college for one year at Madison, S.D., earning a teaching degree. She taught at Pleasant Lake country school before marrying Clarence Heezen on September 22, 1946. They first farmed with Ray Heezen, where Betty also taught country school near Ree Heights. By 1950, they were farming south of Plankinton. Betty then stayed home to raise and take care of her family. In the early 1970s, she became a library aide at the Plankinton Public School until her retirement in 1999. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, baking, playing cards and dominoes. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Plankinton. Those grateful for having shared her life include her daughters, Ruth Scarborough of Rancho Cordova, Calif. and Carmen (Ruben) Lapp of Redfield; a brother, Elmer Sorenson of Plankinton; three sisters, Esther Miller of Mitchell, Erna (Clayton) Gallup of Spearfish, and Mildred (Sylvester) Weniger of Plankinton; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Gail (Jerry) Hoffman; two brothers, Bob and Frank Sorenson; and one sister, Lorraine Capps. The Miller Press 9/26/2007
