Description	:	Bill grew up on a farm in the Milan, TN area along with seven siblings. His parents were Sallie and J.G. Camper who are buried nearby at the Shiloh Cemetery. Bill came to Memphis, TN as a young man seeking work. Bill moved into a boarding house operated by the Paris and Gass family. These kind and loving people also became like family to Bill. Read More	Bill grew up on a farm in the Milan, TN area along with seven siblings. His parents were Sallie and J.G. Camper who are buried nearby at the Shiloh Cemetery. Bill came to Memphis, TN as a young man seeking work. Bill moved into a boarding house operated by the Paris and Gass family. These kind and loving people also became like family to Bill. He loved them dearly, and they also loved and respected him. As a young man, Bill enjoyed the excitement of the big city...some might say a little too much. He earned the nickname "Wild Bill" for his reputation as a drinker and brawler. But those days didn't last long, as Bill was no one's fool. He was a very wise man who grew up quickly, stopped drinking and left behind his wild days. Bill found employment at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Memphis, where he worked for almost forty years, until the plant shut down. He was very active in the Rubber Workers Union and served as Union Steward during his employment at Firestone. Bill was a strong Christian and was devoted to those he loved. Those who knew Bill, knew that his word was his bond. He was always honest and always willing to help his fellow man. Even though he never married, he loved his nieces and nephews and treated all the children and grandchildren of the Paris and Gass families as if they were his own, showing them love, kindness, patience and gave them great words of wisdom. Bill would be the first to tell you that he was not well educated. However, he was a very intelligent man who knew his Union handbook word-for-word, cover-to-cover. He was also a great history buff and loved to talk about past wars, politicians and the history of America. He also loved good old fashioned Western movies, especially those starring John Wayne. And he loved watching rodeo shows. Bill co-owned a farm in the Milan area that he named the Ponderosa and loved taking the kids to see the new calves, pigs and big hogs. Each child that he loved always had a calf named for them. Bill bravely battled cancer for several years before his death. He was an extraordinarily good man who made a positive impact on everyone he knew. He will be forever missed.
