He was born March 16, 1931, at Mohegan, W.V. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from April 20, 1950, until April 22, 1953, re-enlisted and served from Aug. 2, 1954, until April 7, 1955, earning a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Read More	***************************************** Beatrice Daily Sun (NE) - Thursday, July 22, 2004 Billy J. Harvey, 73, Beatrice, died at his home Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2004. He was born March 16, 1931, at Mohegan, W.V. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from April 20, 1950, until April 22, 1953, re-enlisted and served from Aug. 2, 1954, until April 7, 1955, earning a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was married to Margaret L. Bennett on May 11, 1953, at Davy, W.V. He owned and operated a trucking company for many years. He lived various places before moving to Nebraska in 1960 and moved to Beatrice in 1962. He was a member of the American Legion Bitting-Norman Post 27 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the AARP, the National Trucking Association, the NRA and the North American Hunters Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors: wife, Margaret; sons, Jim Harvey and special friend Karen Ellsworth of Steele City, Billy Harvey of Lincoln; daughters, Sue Lohmeyer of Blue Springs, Kay Pike and husband Mike of Wymore, Glenna Reed and husband George Lynn of Lecompton, Kan., and Linda Billups and husband David of Western; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Garnett Lyons and husband Graydon of Brenton, W.V., Ruby Smith of Smiths, Ala., Mae Jester and husband Junior of Bridgeville, Delaware, Phyllis Brooks and husband Robert of Davy, W.V., Lena Miller and husband Kara of Statesville, N.C., Peggy Whitley and husband Bill of Beatrice, and Bonita Olliff and husband Larry of Venice, Fla.; brother, Skippy Harvey and wife Debbie of Rock Creek, W.V.; sister-in-law, Linda Harvey of New London, N.C.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Onnie and Elsie (Taylor) Harvey; sister, Myrle Ziontek; brother, Roger Harvey; son-in-law, Doug Lohmeyer; and two granddaughters. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, the Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Burial: Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until time of services on Saturday. Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Bitting-Norman Post 27 of Beatrice.
