Son of Homer Abel Coffey and Helen Muse OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 9, 1966 COFFEY - Billy Watson Coffey, son of Homer and Helen Coffey, was born August 20, 1924 near Humeston, Iowa, and passed away at his home near Humeston May 20, 1966, at the age of 41 years and nine months. His entire life was spent in Wayne county with the exception of 33 months, from June 23, 1943 to March 19, 1946, which were served in the United States Navy as Mailman 2nd Class. Most of this time was spent in or near the Philippine Islands. He joined the Humeston Baptist church and later transferred to the Unity Baptist church. He was united in marriage to Maxine Tiffany of Allerton on December 14, 1946 and to this union three sons were born: Francis Ray, Jerry Lynn and Danny David, all of the home. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, his sister, Rita and husband, Larry Siglin and a niece, Larrita Siglin. Also his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Tiffany of Corydon; his sister-in-law and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Otis (Genevieve) Owen of Promise City, Iowa; brothers-in-law and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Tiffany and sons, Gary and Tom of East Peoria, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tiffany and daughter, Charlene of Ackworth; and a host of other relatives and friends. He gave a great deal of time and talent to his community. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion, Alva F. Eaton Post; a member of the Post Honor Guard; an F.H.A. Board member; an ASC committee member; 4-H Councilman and a 4-H Club leader. He was a kind and loving husband and father and his family was his greatest joy. Funeral services were held from the Hutchinson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, May 23. The Rev. John Patterson officiated. Graveside services were conducted at the Humeston cemetery by Alva F. Eaton American Legion Post, assisted by Chaplain Nielson. Pallbearers were Leonard Abel, Virgil Storm, Ver Williams, Robert Sponsler, Clarence Heaton and Dean Williams. Flower girls were Vera Lee Abel, Dorothy Storm and Virginia Vandell. Curtis Tuttle was vocalist and pianist for the selection "Beyond the Sunset."
