Description	:	"Obituary - Mrs. Patrick Carey. Mrs. Patrick Carey was born July 1845 in Tipperary county Ireland, and came to this country with her parents who settled in Illinois and later in Iowa. On Feb. 20th 1865 she was united in marriage with Patrick Carey at Cedar Rapids, IA. A few years later they moved to Union County and settled on a farm two and one half miles east of Elk Point where she lived until the time of her death March 5th of this year. To this union was born eleven children. She leaves to mourn her loss eight children,... Read More	"Obituary - Mrs. Patrick Carey. Mrs. Patrick Carey was born July 1845 in Tipperary county Ireland, and came to this country with her parents who settled in Illinois and later in Iowa. On Feb. 20th 1865 she was united in marriage with Patrick Carey at Cedar Rapids, IA. A few years later they moved to Union County and settled on a farm two and one half miles east of Elk Point where she lived until the time of her death March 5th of this year. To this union was born eleven children. She leaves to mourn her loss eight children, two sisters and one brother. On August 19th, 1892 her husband died and the whole responsibility of caring for their large family fell to the mother. But God strengthens the shoulders for the burdens they have to bear. And she being a woman always attentive to duty not only raised her family, but all accumulated a considerable amount of this worlds goods. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church and in her life exemplified its teachings. She was a truly Christian woman devoted to her family and true to her friends. The esteem in which she was held may but be judged by the number of neighbors and friends that assembled on Saturday morning to accompany her mortal remains to their last resting place. The funeral was held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elk Point. The pastor, Father Salmon sang the Solemn Mass of Requiem assisted by Father Robinson of Jefferson as deacon and Father Flood of Vermillion as sub-deacon. A choir from Jefferson under their leader Mr. Bechard assisted in the singing of the Solemn Requiem Mass and furnished appropriate music. At the close of the funeral mass Father Robinson blessed the remains. The burial took place in the family lot in the St. Joseph's cemetery at Elk Point. Six of her nephews acted as honorary pallbearers: John Naughton, Raymond Naughton, Eugene O'Connor, Joseph Carey, Phil O'Connor and Charles Simmons."
