Dewing was born at Rushville, NE on April 19, 1922 to Fred and Leona Furman Dewing. He died at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE on March 5, 1995, at the age of 72 years. Bud grew up in the Rushville-Gordon area, where he lived on various farms and ranches. He spent his time doing chores, whittling and developing a special fondness for the Sandhills and its wildlife, which he would keep for the rest of his life. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in October, 1942. Serving in the Navy gave Bud life-time memories of traveling. His tour of duty took himto many places around the world. He was honorably dischargd in January, 1946, after which he returned to Godon, NE, eventually settling in Valentine. Bud was employed by Nebraska Public Power District, formerly known as Consumers Public Power District in Valentine for 36 years, retiring in June of 1985. He served as a lineman and a plant operator during his employment. He married Twila Mann on April 30, 1951, and raised five children. Bud built the home that he shared with his family. During his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating at Merritt Reservoir with his wife and children. Bud was a man of many talents, one of which was a special ability to repair or rebuild anything that didn't work. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Later in his life, he was a gunsmith, designing and crafting his own guns. Bud enjoyed doing many things outside, especially tending his lawn and planting and growing flowers. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Rick Grooms. He is survived by his wife, Twila, four children, Nicki Senseney and her husband, Steve of Valentine, Pat Deutsch and her husband, Larry of Kearney, Cort Dewing and his wife, Julie of Valentine, and Bart Dewing and his wife Lori of Omaha, nine grandchildren, Kelli Egelhoff and Christopher Senseney of Valentine, Tera and Amanda Deutsch of Kearney, Ryan and Ramzi Dewing of Valentine, and Jesse, Tyler and Brooke Dewing of Omaha, and one sister, Shirley Hansen and her family of Gordon, NE. Services were held Tuesday, March 7, 1995, at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE. Officiating was Pastor Steve Breazier, organist was Margaret Fisher, and two special piano solos, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and "Amazing Grace" were played by Christopher Senseney. Pallbearers were Jay Jansen, Joe Gifford, Jim McCollister, Keven Galloway, Allen Sedivy, Gerry Schleve, and Ted Howe. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. A memorial has been established to the Cherry County Hospital Foundation. Holmes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
