Byron was born March 29, 1925, on the family farm in Center Township near Pocahontas, Iowa. He lived on the same farm all of his life until recently moving to Arlington Place. Read More	Byron Benjamin Poduska – age 88 of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Byron was born March 29, 1925, on the family farm in Center Township near Pocahontas, Iowa. He lived on the same farm all of his life until recently moving to Arlington Place. He was the son of Benjamin and Libbie (Kopriva) Poduska and the grandson of Pocahontas pioneers, Martin & Rosa (Hronek) Poduska and John & Anna (Hudek) Kopriva. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1942 and then farmed with his father for several years. On August 18, 1947, Byron married Janet Otto at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple lived their entire married life on the Poduska family farm. In addition to farming, Byron was owner of Pocahontas Radio & TV. In 1966, he began working for the Pocahontas County Engineers office as rod man, sign technician and project inspector for 21 years, retiring in 1988. Byron was an active member of the Catholic Churches in Pocahontas. He was baptized and confirmed at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he served as altar boy, lector and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Laurens until the Pocahontas Council was formed of which he became a charter member. He was a member of the American Heritage Singers, NFO, Farmers Union and was Clerk of Center Township for many years. He was a Boy Scout Master and a member of the Master Gardeners. Byron enjoyed his family, listening to polkas, singing, dancing and gardening. He was a lifelong Notre Dame fan and was a friend of Bill W for 25 years. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Libbie; his wife, Janet; and great-grandson Kyle Keith. Survivors include his daughters, Diane (Terry) Keith of Fort Dodge; Rosanne (Jim) Bitter of Eden Prairie, MN; sons, Frank of Ames; Martin (Candy) of Pflugerville, TX; Benjamin (Kathy) of Havelock and Charles (Joann) of Lenexa, KS; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and sister, Joyce Baumert of Tempe, AZ. Funeral Thursday August 22, 2013, 10:30 AM at Resurrection Catholic Church, Pocahontas, Iowa Visitation Wednesday August 21, 2013, 4 - 8 PM at Powers Funeral Home, Pocahontas, Iowa
