A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Cook's life will be held Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Prospect United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Ben Wilson and Rev. Steve Phillipi. A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Cook's life will be held Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Prospect United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Ben Wilson and Rev. Steve Phillipi. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Cook was born in Union County, NC on December 17, 1912, son of the late T. B. (Tobe) Cook and the late Mary Elizabeth Norman Cook. He was retired as a farmer in the Prospect Community and was named North Carolina Farmer of the year in 1951. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Avis Morris Cook, on April 26, 2006 and a daughter, Evelyn Cook Aycoth, on January 10, 2008. Survivors include two sons, Ray Turner Cook and his wife Violet, Billy Waymon Cook, Sr. and his wife Barbara; one daughter, Jane Cook McWhorter and her husband Bill, all of Monroe; nine grandchildren; and one step-grandson; twelve great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and five step great-great grandchildren. Mr. Cook was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rufus Cook (infant), Crowell Cook, Floyd Cook, Parley (Paul) Cook, Rev. Earl A. Cook, Sr., Lawrence (Larry) Cook, Ernest (Bill) Cook and his sister, Myrtle Cook Stathopoulos. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Richardson and his son-in-law Robert D. Aycoth. The family extends a very special thank you to Home Instead Senior Care for their dedicated care of Mr. Cook. Words cannot adequately express our thanks for the loving care received from all the caregivers with Home Instead and most especially Tiffany Robinson, Gena Clark and Joetta Goode. Special thanks is also extended to the ER Staff at Carolinas Medical Center-Union and to the Trauma Center at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 27, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Prospect United Methodist Church, 6020 Prospect Rd., Monroe, NC 28112.
