He is said to have hailed from Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. He was very likely a grandson of Joseph Cox, who was born in Sussex County, New Jersey c. July 24, 1766. Read More	Captain ABRAHAM PROBASCO COX, Co. C, 69th Ohio Volunteer Infantry & Co. I, 1st Regiment Mississippi Marine Brigade. Abraham Probasco "Abram" Cox was born c. 1830/31 in Ohio. He is said to have hailed from Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. He was very likely a grandson of Joseph Cox, who was born in Sussex County, New Jersey c. July 24, 1766. January 27, 1842 and his and Mary's mortal remains were laid in the West Chester Cemetery in Butler County, Ohio. Abram Probasco Cox is first found in Butler County at the time of the 1850 census. At that time he is a student attending one of the local universities and is residing in a hotel with a number of other students that is operated by Charles and Catherine Snyder that is known as "Buckeye House" in Fairfield Township, Butler County, Ohio. Abram P. Cox was married the following year on March 4, 1851 to Elizabeth Havery in Butler County, Ohio. Abram and Elizabeth are known to have at least two children, namely; 1. Katherine Anne "Kate" Cox, born November 18, 1851/52 in Ohio. Katherine attended the Oxford Female College in Oxford, Ohio. Katherine was married to Alston Ellis on July 23, 1867 in Butler County, Ohio. Alston was born on January 26, 1847 in Kenton County, Kentucky, the son of Absalom and Mary (Ellis) Ellis. It is not known if Katherine and Alston had any children of their own. Katherine Anne (Cox) Ellis died on 29 Mar 1923 and her mortal remains were laid in the West Union Street Cemetery in Athens, Athens County, Ohio. See her Find A Grave Memorial #98525744. 2. John S. Cox, born October 14, 1853 in Ohio. John is known to have been married to _________ __________. They are known to have had at least one child; A. Alice C. Cox, born c. 1889/90 in Ohio. At the time of the 1910 census, Alice is residing with her aunt and uncle, Katherine and Alston Ellis, in Athens, Ohio. Nothing more is known of Alice. John S. Cox died on 21 May 1884 in Ohio and his mortal remains were laid in the West Chester Cemetery in West Chester, Butler County, Ohio. See his Find A Grave Memorial #59676766. C of the 69th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was to eventually elected and promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in Co. C. He later expressed as interest in service in a new unit that became known as the Mississippi Marine Brigade and was allowed to transfer to the Mississippi Marine Brigade, where he was transferred and promoted to serve as Captain of Co. I of the Mississippi Marine Brigade on March 16, 1863 at St. Louis, Missouri. Wickepedia states that, "The Mississippi Marine Brigade was a Union Army amphibious unit which included the United States Ram Fleet and operated from November 1862 to August 1864 during the American Civil War. The brigade was established to act swiftly against Confederate forces operating near the Mississippi River and its tributaries. The brigade was commanded by Brigadier General Alfred W. Ellet and operated in coordination with the Mississippi River Squadron during the Union brown-water navy battle against the Confederate River Defense Fleet and land based forces. The brigade was independent of the Union Army and Navy and reported directly to the Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton." Capt. Cox is believed to have served with the Mississippi Marine Brigade until it was dissolved. It is now known if he continued his service in another unit after this, but it is known that he survived the war and returned to his wife and family in Butler County, Ohio. At the time of the 1870 census, A. P. Cox and his family are found in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, where he practicing as an Attorney-at-law; Abram P.
