Description	:	Meredith Montgomery Teague was the first of six children born to David Teague (1817-1889) and his wife Eleanor Field (1815-1899), of Randolph County, North Carolina. His paternal grandparents were William Teague and his wife Anna Carter, of Chatham County, NC, and his maternal grandparents were Jeremiah Field and his wife Eleanor Sherwood, of Randolph County, NC. In the 1860 census, Meredith was listed as a dauguerrotypist, a photographer. When he enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 20 in 1860, his occupation was listed as an artist. He served in Co. His paternal grandparents were William Teague and his wife Anna Carter, of Chatham County, NC, and his maternal grandparents were Jeremiah Field and his wife Eleanor Sherwood, of Randolph County, NC. In the 1860 census, Meredith was listed as a dauguerrotypist, a photographer. When he enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 20 in 1860, his occupation was listed as an artist. He served in Co. F, 46th NC Regiment, Confederate States Army. He was a Corporal at first, promoted to Sergeant on 17 Nov. 1862, to Lieutenant on 1 April 1863, and to Captain on 10 Sept. 1864. One regimental history refers to him as a "gallant young fellow." After the War, he settled in Marion, McDowell County, NC. In 1870, he was listed as a merchant, with a $2000 personal estate. His younger brother Oswald was living with him. By 1880, he had been named US Store Keeper & Gauger. (I think he was in charge of government liquor warehouses.) On 9 Jan. 1872, Meredith M. Teague married Caroline Mary Cowles (1845-1913), in Marion. She was a daughter of Josiah Cowles and his wife Nancy Caroline Carson, of Hamptonville, Yadkin County, North Carolina. Meredith and Caroline had five children, all born in Marion DeEtte Teague (1872-1953, m. D. G. Patterson, her sister Edna's widower), Robert Cowles Teague (1875-betw. 1900 & 1910), Edna Teague (1878-1910, m. D. G. Patterson), Charles Cowles Teague (1880-1945, m. Cora Belle Miller) and Harry Raymond Teague (1886-1947). Sometime in the late 1880s or 1890s, the Teagues left Marion and went to Liberty in Randolph County, where Meredith was running a saw mill. By 1910, they'd moved to Greensboro, and Meredith was working for the railroad.
