B., 51st Vol. Spanish American War Carey Wilson Victor, formerly a resident of Villisca, died Friday morning in a hospital in Monmouth, Illinois, his death resulting from hemorrhage of the lungs after illness of ten weeks. He was born January 27, 1876 in Page County, Iowa, and was a son of William Samuel and Caroline Elder Victor, pioneer resident of this vicinity, who preceded him in death many years. At the age of 4 he removed with his parents to Villisca where he attended the public schools and went from here to Company B. to serve in the Spanish-American War. Soon after he returned form the Philippine Islands, he went to Roseville, Illinois, were he resided until his death. Mr. Victor was never married. He is survived by four brothers and four sisters. They are Robert E. Victor, Omaha, Jas E. Victor, Warren, Arkansas, William Samuel Victor and Elmer C. Victor and Mrs. Esther Anderson, Villisca; Mrs. Elizabeth Miles, Hope, Arkansas; Mrs. Jadia Damond, Omaha, and Mrs. Rose McDaris, Burmont, California. A short funeral service was held Saturday at the home in Roseville where Mr. Victor made his home for many years and the body was brought to Villisca, accompanied by his brother, Elmer. The body was taken to the Fessler & Sutphen Funeral Home to await the funeral which was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Methodist Church, with Rev J. W. Ellis of Nodaway in charge. The singing was by J. E. Todd, R. J. Swanson, Mrs. F. G. Kunce, and Mrs. L. W. Scott with Mrs. Wheeler at the piano and the pall bearers were S. P. Moore, W. A. Kelley, C. H. Foster, Tim Erickson, J. Moritz, and J. A. Dunn. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Mrs. Jaida J. Dimond and Robert E. Victor of Omaha were here for the funeral.
