Main street, Columbiana, known as the "grand old man" of the Columbiana county elections board by both Democrats and Republicans died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday at a Bedford Municipal hospital of a heart ailment. He was born Sept. 22, 1890 in Unity township, a son of Lawrence and Sevilla Greiner Stacey. Fifty-five years ago he went from Unity township to Columbiana where he was a member of the United Methodist church. He was a 55-year member of the Masonic lodge of this city and a member of the Eagles of Salem. He served on the Columbiana County election board for 28 years, 21 as chairman, retiring in February 1972.He entered politics in 1930 as clerk of Fairfield township and later served as township trustee. From 1928 through 1939 he owned and operated the Columbiana storage from 1936 to 1940, held the position as clerk of the common pleas court. Until his retirement in 1956, he was foreman at the F.C. Russell plant in Columbiana. In 1917 he was married to the former Dorothy Wining. She died in 1967. A son, Carl L. Jr., resides in Columbiana and there are three daughters, Mrs. Earl Ives of Plantation, Fla., Mrs. Richard Hill of Twinsburgh and Mrs. Albert Thomas of Akron. A sister, Mrs. Florence Buhecker lives in Unity and a brother, Raymond Stacey resides in New Middletown. There are 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The Rev. Floyd Gaughler will conduct private services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warrick funeral home in Columbiana where the family will meet friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Columbiana cemetery. The family requests that material tributes take the form if momentary gifts to the Firestone Recreational park, Columbiana.
