Christiansen, was born March 16, 1873 in Hamburg, Germany and died at his home on Moorehead avenue Monday night September 4. he was 77 years, five months and 18 days old. He was the son of John and Mary Johanna Striering Christiansen. In 1882 he came to America with his parents who settled on a farm in Crawford county. He was united in marriage with Emma Zabel on March 24, 1893. Most of their married life was spent on a farm in Grant township. Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Christiansen retired from active work and moved to Ida Grove where they resided on Moorehead avenue. Eleven children were born to them, all of whom except one survive. One son, Fred, died in 1927. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Mrs. Sasges (Clara) of Mapleton; Edward, Denison, Mrs. Frank Forney (Dorothy), Roy, Utah; Mrs. Harold Landen (Linda), Ida Grove; Marvin, St. Louis, Mo.; Carl, Battle Creek; Harold, Webb, Iowa; Mrs. Russell McGimmie (Isabel), Blue Island, Ill.; and Elsie of Chicago. Also 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Two brothers Albert of Sioux City and Fred of Mission, Texas. One brother, Edward preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at Moore & Christensen funeral home Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. C. H. Pauling officiating. Harrison Boughton sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Rock of Ages," accompanied by Betty Neumann. Burial was in the Ida Grove cemetery. Pall bearers were Vernon Sasges, Leroy Christiansen, Morrelle Christiansen, Donald Christiansen, Elwood Christiansen, and Meyer Medoff.
