He was the youngest of a family of two boys and three girls of Hans and Meta Christian. Sisters and brothers were Mrs. Henry (Cecelia) Heers, Morris Christian, Mrs. Art (Julia) Miner and Mrs. Anton (Helena) Thomsen – all deceased. Carl attended grade school and high school at Cordova and was a member of the Lutheran Church there. He loved sports and played both basketball and baseball in high school. He helped with work on the farm and when his father retired and moved into Cordova, Carl decided he wanted to be on his own. He was only 18 when he and his brother, Morris, bought the Chevrolet garage in Beaver Crossing and moved there with his parents in 1924. Carl married Dorothy Vogt in June 1929. Dorothy was born January 13, 1911 to Mr. and Mrs. Jake Vogt, and has three older sisters, Esther, Agnes, and Helen, and a younger brother, Neale. Dorothy attended country school, District #39, and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1928. Carl and Dorothy were the parents of two children; Richard Dee born December 14, 1930, and Carole Lee (Sherry), born July 20, 1932. Carol married Berle Noler in 1951 and they have two daughters, Becky Gocke and Kristen Bartholomew, and one son, Kelly, also married. Richard Married Joyce White in 1954 and they have one son, Brad (married), and two daughters, Debra Larrabee and Terri Christian (now Stutzman per AMW). When Carl and Dorothy returned from their honeymoon, they lived in Hebron, Nebraska, where Carol and Morris bought the Chevrolet dealership, after selling the one in Beaver Crossing. One year later they moved back to Beaver Crossing and purchased a house in the east part of town. Carol and Morris farmed near Beaver Crossing and Cordova for several years. In 1938, Carl purchased a gas station on the south edge of Beaver Crossing. During World War II (1943), the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where Carl worked as a radio technician for United Airlines at Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1945, the family returned to Beaver Crossing and Carl was the proprietor of Christian Service Station until his retirement in 1973. The original, small station had been torn down in 1949 and replaced by a large, Quonset building. Except for the first year in Hebron and the year in Fort Collins, Carl and Dorothy lived all their married life in Beaver Crossing. They were involved and enthused in anything for the betterment of the town and community and belonged to several organizations. Both were also interested in sports and traveling, and especially enjoyed weekend trips following the football team of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Carl and Dorothy were members of the United Methodist Church. Carl Christian died on April 13, 1978 in a Lincoln hospital. Dorothy Christian still lives (1982) in the same house in Beaver Crossing.
