Carol was born on March 20, 1940 near McClusky. She was the daughter of Emil and Margaret (Waltz) Hausauer. She grew up on the family farm near McClusky. She attended school in McClusky and graduated from McClusky High School in 1958. Carol married Delmar on November 14, 1959 at the St. John’s Lutheran parsonage. They began farming in 1962. In 1965 they purchased the Reiser family farm in Whittaker Township. Delmar and Carol built a new dairy barn and increased the dairy herd to 36 cows and they continued to farm and dairy until 1993 and purchased a home near McClusky. Carol was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in McClusky on December 13, 1964 and has been a member since that time. Carol enjoyed quilting for missions with the ladies of St. John’s Lutheran Church and she served as a clerk and treasurer of the McClusky Township of Sheridan County for 16 years. The quilts that she made for her children and grandchildren will be treasured always. She had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden was a treat and enjoyed all year with the canning and freezing that she did. Delmar and Carol enjoyed dancing to “old time” music, especially waltzes. Sunday afternoons were usually spent listening to the polka party in the living room and sometimes there’d even be some dancing! Because of their dairy commitment, their kids learned a great work ethic from them. She baked fresh loaves of bread every week and sausage making in the fall was a family tradition everyone enjoyed. If you ask her grandkids what they will miss most about their Grandma, they will smile and say strudels...then they’ll say her hugs and smiles when she greeted them. Her eyes would light up when they visited and that was true even in her last couple weeks of life when they all visited her in the hospital. Many conversations and funny stories took place around the kitchen table with her. “What does that mean” was a common question from her children and grandchildren when she’d talk German. She prepared many wonderful meals for her family and friends around that table, too. Her family will keep those food traditions alive but they probably won't ever taste quite like mom’s. Carol had a kind soul and her faith was a very important part of her life. Carol is survived by her husband, Delmar of McClusky; children, Bonnie (Robert) Tweeten of Hensler, ND, Rebecca (Thomas) Conati of Fisher, MN, Jon (Nancy) Reiser of Bismarck, Mary (Alex) Richard of Casselton, ND; 11 grandchildren, Clay and Luke Tweeten, Claire, Trace, and Cameron Conati, Brady, Cole, and Laikyn Reiser, Ethan, Olivia, and Alaina Richard. 3 step-grandchildren, Heather, Tyler, Justin; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Finn and Bennett; brothers, Raymond (Roberta) Hausauer, of Rhode Island, Richard (Eunice) Hausauer, Max, ND, and Donald (Vernia) Hausauer of McClusky. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; son, Clayton; brothers, Marvin, Herbert; infant brothers, Roland and Gene; sister, Jeanette Hausauer.
