HECHT Carolina Magdalena Boehmer, daughter of Jacob Christian Wilhelm Boehmer and Emma Anna Kanel, was born March 12, 1902, four miles northeast of DuBois, the oldest of three children. She was baptized April 13, 1902 by Rev. Emil Vogt and confirmed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on April 16, 1916 following instruction by Rev. G. Wullschleger. She attended nine years of school at Avondale Country School. As a young lady she attended Christian Leadership School at Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois, after which she helped organize the DYB young people's organization in Friedens Church. Lena was united in marriage to Walter Hecht at Friedens Church on February 5, 1925. To this union were born three children- Shirley, Bryce, and Gayle. In the first years of their marriage Lena and Walter lived in Nemaha County, Ks., a couple of miles south of the church. Later they lived on her father's farm northeast of DuBois and for several years lived in DuBois operating a poultry station. In 1929 they moved to Clovis, New Mexico. They returned to Nebraska in 1933 to live on the farm southeast of DuBois until retiring from farming in 1970 when they made their home in DuBois. Len's life centered around her home and church. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed music, playing violin and piano which she also instructed. At Friedens, where she was a lifetime member, she directed an orchestra and the church choir in her younger years. She also taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 5 years. She became ill in 1979 and Walter took care of her until his death on May 11, 1981. She was still able to stay in her home with care until October of 1981 at which time she had to be hospitalized. She was a resident of the Pawnee Manor since November 1, 1981, until her death on Sunday, November 27, 1983, at the age of 81 years, eight months, and 15 days. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Walter. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley, and her husband William Sisson, of Greenwood, Wis.; two sons, Rev. Bryce Hecht and his wife Ina, of Menno, S.D., and Gayle Hecht and his wife, Margaret, of DuBois. Other survivors include two brothers, Floyd Boehmer of Denver, and Clifford Boehmer of Pawnee City;Two granddaughter and four grandsons;nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
