She died at her home here Sunday morning while preparing a roast before her planned departure for church. Her son Richard of Yakima discovered his mother's death when he arrived at her home about noon. In December Mrs. Sackmann learned of her heart condition and restricted her activities. She had attended a mid-week Lenten service Wednesdsay at the Philadelphia Congregational church. Caroline Hille was born April 7, 1889, at Kulm, Bessarabia, Russia, the daughter of John and Maria Roloff Hille. When she was five she came with her parents to the United States. After five years in North and South Dakota the family migrated west and settled near Ralston in 1894. She attended school at Ralston, and was instructed and confirmed by the Rev. Mr. Koch in the Salem Congregational church near Ralston. On December 16, 1909, she married Martin Sackmann in that church. Six children were born to this union. A daughter, Bertha, died on September 8, 1913. The Martin Sackmanns took up a ranch in Bauer coulee. After seven years there they acquired their home place 17 miles west of Ritzville where they lived for 25 years and raised their family. While on the ranch in rural Adams county the family was active in the Pilgrim Congregational church at Odessa. Martin's illness in the fall of 1942 forced his retirement and they moved to Ritzville. Five years later, on July 24, 1947, he died. Mrs. Sackmann was a widow for 18 years. She was always active and in good health till last December. In 1956 she built a new home at 602 S. Palouse. Mrs. Sackmann was an active member and staunch supporter of Philadelphia Congregational church. Last year she was president of the senior aid, of which she had been a long-time member. Surviving are two daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. William (Martha) Weis of Seattle, Herbert M. Sackmann of Odessa, Mrs. Leslie W. (Wilma) Lee of Portland, Ore., Dr. Richard R. Sackmann of Yakima and Milton P. Sackmann. Daniel Hille of Ritzville and Emanuel Hille of Walla Walla are surviving brothers. There are 17 grandchildren. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery.
