Caroline LaVaun was born February 26, 1909, and departed this life March 16, 1909, after an illness of but a few days, although all that medical skill and loving care could do was done, she was called home by him who has said "of such is the kingdom of Heaven." At that little form was seen for the last time, only the parents knew the bitterness of that farewell. She, by how sweet and bright ways, has endeared herself to all who saw her, and her few short days of life will leave a blessed memory to those who mourn her loss. God, in His infinite mercy has been fit to transplant this tender blossom into paradise, though the home seems desolate now and as the little body lies beneath the snow, we know that her little spirit is safe in the arms of Jesus, waiting to welcome the loved ones to that better land where suffering is no more. A short sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Pickett at the home in Des Moines, after which the remains were accompanied to Victor by an uncle, and taken to the home of her grandparents, south-east of town, from which place the funeral was held March 16, conducted by Rev. Pickett, with interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Victor.
