She graduated from Victor high school in 1904 and married John Charles Walter of Victor on Feb. 7, 1905. Mr. Walter died on Jan. 8, 1951. Following their marriage they moved to Des Moines where she resided until 1960 when she moved to live with her daughters in Arlington Va. and Camp Springs, Md. Children born to this marriage were Caroline LeVaun, who died in infancy; Evelyn Ellen, wife of Glenn Harold Sorenson, and Martha Mae Merrill, wife of Charles Thomas Merrill, who survive. She leaves five granddaughters, Marilyn Ellen Sorenson, Lois Ann Sorenson, Carolyn Mae Merrill Woods and husband Larry, Martha Ann Merrill Schwartz, and husband Roger, and Grace Marie Merrill; one great granddaughter, Jennifer Christine Woods, born August 31, 1974. Mrs. Walter retained her membership in the First Presbyterian church of Des Moines where she was given a lifetime membership in the Woman's Association for many years of active participation. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, ancestor of John Hart, one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence from the state of New Jersey. For ten years she was a delegate or alternate to the DAR Continental Congress, Washington, D.C., representing the Abigail Adams Chapter of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Almeda Henry and Carrie McCann; three brothers, Walter Hart, Logan Hart and Benjamin Hart, besides other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, at 2 o'clock at the McAninch chapel in Victor with Rev. Lloyd E. Brockmeyer officiating. Two organ solos, "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages" were played by Mrs. Ireta Daniels. The casket bearers were Robert Walter, George Ketterling, Elvin Huffman, Leland Hart, James McCann and Lester Fleming with burial in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Victor.
