Description	:	Ernest Huckfeldt and Caroline Bohlke were married April 26, 1910 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union were born three children - Everette, Evelyn and Eugene. They settled north of Holstein on the farm owned by Ernest's father, Joseph. Ernest farmed for many years and raised registered Poland China hogs, shorthorn cattle and Percheron horses. Ernest and Carrie left the farm and moved into Holstein with his father in 1937. After moving to town, Ernest doctored animals and Percheron Stallions until he became ill the summer of 1945. Carrie worked at the Central office after the death of Ernest. She then went to work at the Holstein School as cook. In 1950, she married Chris Hammer and they lived on the farm northwest of town that was owned by Ernest. She and Chris lived together 20 years when Chris passed away in 1971. Carrie then came to live with her daughter, Evelyn and in September 1971, she entered the Haven Home at Kenesaw. In March 1972, she went into the Long Term Care at Minden and lived there until her death on December 11, 1973. Ernest and Carrie were both active in their church, St Paul's Lutheran Church of Holstein. Carrie was organist there for many years. Carrie was active in community affairs and loved to sing.
