Carolyn was born July 6, 1940, in Shelby County, to Wilfred and Arlene (Sick) Stinn, and grew up south of Portsmouth on the family farm. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1958, and was united in marriage to Max A. Nelson on February 23, 1962. Nelson July 6, 1940 - April 25, 2022 Carolyn A. Nelson, age 81, of Persia, IA., passed away April 25, 2022, at Select Specialty in Omaha. Carolyn was born July 6, 1940, in Shelby County, to Wilfred and Arlene (Sick) Stinn, and grew up south of Portsmouth on the family farm. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1958, and was united in marriage to Max A. Nelson on February 23, 1962. A long time member of St. Patrick's Church in Neola, Carolyn will always be remembered for her special chocolate chip cookies. She is preceded in death by her parents Wilfred and Arlene Stinn; infant daughter Mary; husband Max in August of 2021; sisters Janice Stuhr, Jean Stahl , Joyce Miller; brother Mike Stinn. Carolyn leaves behind her children, John Nelson, of Neola, Ted (Sheila) Nelson, of Honey Creek, Jane (Marshall) Burke, of Council Bluffs, Julie (Steve) McPhillips, of Honey Creek; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Ann (Dennis) "Shorty" Andersen, of Harlan; brothers Lee (Kathy) Stinn, of Harlan, Bill (Tami) Stinn, of Westphalia, IA, many nieces and nephews. Visitation Wednesday 5-7 p.m., at St. Patrick's Church in Neola. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 10:30 a.m., also at church in Neola. Carolyn will be laid to rest with husband Max in St. Patrick's Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Family will direct memorials.
