Carrie was born on Tancook Island, Lunenburg County, on November 3, 1916 to Bridget Jane Mason (Langille) and Howard Mason. The Mason family was well-known for building Nova Scotia Schooners in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The most famous family Schooner was designed and built by Carrie’s father in 1935; the Amasonia still sails today and has won most of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association trophies on at least one occasion. Carrie, affectionately known to her family as “Nan”, moved to Bridgetown in 1947 with her husband, Lawrence Gordon Kehoe. Lawrence was an employee of the Nova Scotia Light and Power Corporation for over 40 years, as well as a volunteer in many worthwhile organizations. Lawrence was a deacon of the Bridgetown Baptist Church, while Nan was a member of the church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Nan had many interests including travelling, knitting, rug hooking, sewing, camping, and playing bridge. She was a talented quilter, and each of her three beloved granddaughters slept well through their childhood with quilts on their beds that she created. Nan was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence Kehoe, as well as several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her devoted daughter Patricia (Douglas) Stockman, Berwick; granddaughters Cynthia Stockman, Halifax, Karen Daye, Halifax, and Janice (Jodye) Routledge, Berwick. The greatest loves of Nan’s life were her three wonderful great-grandchildren Maxx Daye, Seth Routledge and Mackenzie Routledge. She is also survived by her brother Murray “Joe” Mason, Halifax; her sister Dora Cross, Chester. At Nan’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A family graveside service will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 15, in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown with Rev. Brian Wallace officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bridgetown Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
