Read More	OBITUARY--BOWEN Longford Community again within a few days, pauses in sorrow in the passing of another of the long time and beloved citizens, Mrs. Carrie A. Bowen, who had dwell among them for many years. Her death occurred Saturday, November 3, 1951. Her life story is written as follows: Carrie A. Odell, daughter of Marcus T. and Sarah Ann Odell, was born near Victor, Iowa, April 16, 1876. She came with her parents to Kansas, who located on a farm near Oak Hill, and here she spent her girlhood days. The greather part of her life was spent in and around Longford. She was a very ambitious person and hers was a busy and useful life. She was united in marriage with Jacob Wolf of Longford, February 7, 1895. Jacob and Carrie operated a hotel in Longford (where the cafe is located today). To this union were born two sons, Marcus E. Wolf and Perry F. Wolf. Mr. Wolf departed this life October 6, 1915. Om 1919 Mrs. Wolf was married to Fred J. Bowen of Longford, when she became the kindly and capable wife and homemaker at the Bowen Ranch. After the death of Mr. Bowen, she remained on the ranch one year, then moving back to the old home in Longford, which was her place of residence until the time of her death. Mrs. Bowen's home was ever a place of hospitality and good cheer, and all who entered there received a hearty welcome, her merry laughter and words of kindly counsel sending the visitor on his way, cheered and refreshed. Mrs. Bowen was converted in young womanhood. Hers was a simple restful trust and faith in the finished work of Christ for sinful man. Mrs. Bowen's faith was firmly fixed on the Rock of Ages. She loved people, especially the youth, and those in the sunset of life. She seemed to sense the problems of those around her and sympahtized with them, doing what she could to help them in their need. Mrs. Bowen will be remembered by many for her many acts of kindness. In later years she grieved because of her physical condition, she could not get out and visit the sick and shutins, desiring to get well enough to do this. Shortly before her death she was privileged to spend about two months in the home of her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Baringer, of Alliance, Nebraska. For years Mrs. Bowen had been in ill health, suffering very much, until after the recent weeks of suffering, the Heavenly Father said "It is enough," and very peacefully on the morning of November 3rd, at St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia, the spirit of Carrie Bowen took it's flight to be with God; her earthly sojourn having been 75 years 6 months and 16 days. She leaves to miss her presence here, her two sons, Marcus E., of Phoeniz, Arizona, and Perry F. of Longford, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. A. B. Barlinger of Alliance, Nebraska, two brothers, Owen A. Odell, of Alliance, Nebraska, and Perry Odell, of Ogallala, Nebraska, her nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Longford Evangelical United Brethren Church Tuesday afternoon, November 6, at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Herbert Iwig officiating. A quartet comosed of Mr. and Mrs. Ted McCready, Mrs Earl George and Kenneth Lilley, with Mrs. Raymond Bender as accompanist, sand three appropriate selections. Burial was in the Rose Meron Cemetery. Relatives and friends joined in honoring the memory of the deceased, and the beautiful flowers expressed respect and friendship.
