Description	:	Carroll was one of the nicest men that I have ever known. He loved his family, and he was a hard worker. His favorite way to relax was to go out to their family's cabin at Loch Burn to fish or work in the yard. He loved to eat out too and especially enjoyed going to fish frys. His favorite way to relax was to go out to their family's cabin at Loch Burn to fish or work in the yard. He loved to eat out too and especially enjoyed going to fish frys. Carroll had a good sense of humor, and it seemed like he always had a little twinkle in his eyes. He absolutely doted on his wife, Virginia, whom he affectionately called Ginnie. They met at a college "mixer" in Des Moines when he was attending Drake University Law School, and she was going to the Methodist School of Nursing, after the death of her first husband. They both loved to talk about their first date. There was always a lot of giggling, and Carroll always had that little twinkle in his eyes when they talked about it. After they met at the mixer, Carroll called Ginnie, and asked her for a date, and she told him that she would love to go, but she already had a date for the evening. Carroll showed up at her door earlier than her date and persuaded her to go out with him instead. They snuck down the back stairway in case her date for the evening was already on his way, and from that evening on, they were a couple. --------------- Ottumwa Daily Courier, August 13, 1941: C.J. Truitt Is Made A Corporal Mr. and Mrs. Laurence M. Truitt and daughter, Mary, 610 West Fourth Street, have just returned from a two-week trip to California, where they visited with their son and brother, Corp. Carroll J. Truitt, who is located at Camp Roberts. Young Truitt was inducted into the U.S. Army, March 8, being a selective service representative of local board No. 2. On March 15 he was assigned to Company B, 81st battalion at Camp Roberts. Two months later he became a company clerk in the 89th infantry training battalion and was advanced to the rank of corporal. During the visit of his family in California, Corporal Truitt was granted a three-day leave of absence and visited points of interest along the coast and around the Los Angeles area with his family. --------------- Obituary from The Ottumwa Courier, Wednesday, November 1, 1989, Page 8: Carroll J. Truitt, 72, of 203 Northview died at 1:20 a.m. Oct. 31, 1989, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, 1001 E. Pennsylvania Ave. He was born July 29, 1917, to Laurence M. and Hazel D. Johnson Truitt. He married Virginia Ewart on March 21, 1948, in Des Moines. He graduated from Drake University and Drake University Law School. He was an owner of Griswold Abstract Company and later joined McElroy, Truitt and Truitt Abstracting and Law Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Wapello County Historical Society. He had been active in scouting and was a member of Kiwanis club. He had served on the Plan and Zoning Commission and the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission. He served in World War II with the Army in the South Pacific. He is survived by his wife; two sons, David and Paul of Ottumwa; two granddaughters; and a sister, Mary Horton of Ottumwa. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Richard Speight offficiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery. Family visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to his church or Wapello County Historical Society.
