Description	:	Carroll Louis Unkrich, 83, of rural Birmingham, IA passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, July 14, 2017. Funeral services will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Birmingham United Methodist Church in Birmingham, IA with Rev. Herbert Shafer officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Birmingham United Methodist Church. Carroll Louis Unkrich was born June 2, 1934 in Richland, IA to Charles and Dorothy (Williams) Unkrich. He attended Birmingham High School where he was a member of the graduating class of 1952 and later served as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Carroll met and fell in love with Barbara Ann Huisman. The two began their life together as husband and wife on March 15, 1959 in Birmingham, IA. Carroll and Barbara became the proud parents to two children, Judy and Mark. Carroll was a hard working farmer who, with Barbara by his side, created a loving home for their family. He understood the value of a hard day's work and a firm handshake. Carroll was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, the Cattleman's Association, as well as serving as a Union Township Trustee. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. His love for farming was only second to his love for his family. Carroll was a kind man with a generous heart, who will be deeply missed by his family and those lucky enough to call him friend. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Unkrich. Left to share his story is his loving wife, Barbara of Birmingham, IA; two children, Judy (Clint) Hardin and Mark (Heidi) Unkrich both of Birmingham, IA; four grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Moyer, Austin (Brenda) Hardin, Audrey (Ryan) Smith, and Emily (Nick) Fraser; five great grandchildren plus one on the way, as well as many extended family and a host of friends.
