Black Hills Weekly newspaper, Deadwood, SD, August 18, 1965: C.P. Gaughen Dies Sunday; Funeral Set. Casimir Patrick 'Mickey' Gaughen died unexpectedly Sunday night at his home in Pluma. The well-known former dairy owner had been released from the hospital Saturday morning where he had been undergoing treatment for the past ten days. Gaughen, a pioneer dairyman, was born Feb. 22, 1891 at Castalia, S.D. and moved to Keystone with his parents at the age of seven. Two years later Gaughen moved to the Northern Hills where he attended schools at Deadwood, quitting in 1905 to go to work. In 1910, he entered the dairy business, working for George Larive, from whom he purchased the business, later known as Gaughen's Dairy, in September, 1919. In 1947, he sold the dairy firm to his son, Richard G.L. 'Sonny' Gaughen, and his son-in-law, Vince Weiland, who continued its operation until the business was sold in March to Brown Swiss Milk Co. Gaughen was married in 1913 to the former Alma Larive, who survives. In addition to his wife, other survivors include three children, Richard Gaughen, Mrs. Vince (Alice) Weiland, both of Pluma, Mrs. Wilson (Marcella) Simmons, Deadwood; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Carroll, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Blanche Agan, Phoenix, Ariz. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Lead, and interment will be in the South Lead cemetery. Rosary services have been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the McColley Funeral Home, Lead. A memorial has been established for the Heart Fund. Gaughen Funeral Held A requiem mass was celebrated Thursday morning in Lead for C.P. “Mickey” Gaughen, long-time dairyman of the area, who died Sunday at his home at Pluma. Rev. Patrick Igoe, Church of Immaculate Conception, Bear Butte, was celebrant of the mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Music was provided by Helen Morganti, soloist, and Mrs. Joseph Dunn, accompanist. Serving as pallbearers were Reno Rantapaa, Lee Abrahamson, William Kotti, Merle Reber, Sheldon Wade, and Blas Skvicalo. Interment was in the South Lead cemetery under the direction of the McColley Funeral Home, Lead, where rosary services were held Wednesday evening.
