CATHARINE CACKLER Mrs. Catharine Cackler, for many years a prominent and highly respected resident of this community, died at her home about 11 o'clock, Friday, May 23, 1924, near Lacona, Iowa. After a short illness she passed peacefully out of this life to her heavenly home. Mrs. Cackler was one of the best loved women of this community and her sudden death has cast a gloom over the entire community. Catharine Nyswonger, daughter of James and Elizabeth Nyswonger, was born in Greenville, Darke county, Ohio, June 24, 1851, and died at her home May 23, 1924, aged 72 years, 10 months and 29 days. She was married Sept. 25, 1870 to Nelson Cackler. To this union nine children were born, all of whom survive her, except a son who died in infancy, and a daughter, Mary. The children are: James P. Cackler, of Fresno, Calif.; W. D. Cackler, of Hanford, Calif.; Nora E. Brewer, of Fresno, Calif.; Jacob C. Cackler, of Chariton, Iowa; Bertha O. White, of Corry, Pa.; Edward Theodore, at home; and Mrs. Edith Rauch, of Victor, Iowa. Thirty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren called her grandma. Mrs. Cackler was the second daughter in a family of six children, all of whom are living, except for one sister who died five years ago. Her surviving siblings are: Mrs. Lydia Bush, of Hanford, Calif.; Mrs. N. C. Crooks, of Lacona, Iowa; Mrs. Geneva Brewer, of Hanford, Calif.; and W. F. Nyswonger, of Wausaukee, Wisc. Mrs. Cackler came to this county with her parents when she was two years old, the trip being made overland in wagons, and she has lived in this vicinity all her life except for one year in Kansas. She united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 12, 1906, and has been faithful to the end. Mrs. Cackler strove to instill into her children high ideals of life. She was loved by all who knew her and her desire was always to help wherever needed. This thought could truly be said of her - She came to minister to others but not to be ministered unto.
