Daughter of James Nyswonger and Elizabeth Lowrey OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 5, 1919 MARY ELIZABETH CROOKS Mary Elizabeth, daughter of James and Eliza Nyswonger, was born south of Liberty Center, in Warren county, Iowa, April 15, 1855, and departed this life at her home near Norwood, in Lucas county, Iowa, May 24, 1919, at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 9 days. She was married to John L. Crooks, March 28, 1875, and has ever been a devoted companion, mother and friend. To this union were born nine children, all of whom are living, and all attended the funeral services. They are William Henderson, James Monroe and Clarence Floyd, all of New Virginia, Iowa; Clark, of Interior, South Dakota; Mrs. Viola Killen, of Liberty, Iowa; Mrs. Clarcy Eubank, of Winnebago, Minn.; Jesse and Jasper, of Norwood; and Mrs. Mae Lovell, of Lacona. These, and the bereaved husband, twenty-four grandchildren, four sisters, and one brother, and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of a loved one. Two grandchildren preceded her to that better land where parting is unknown. All her lifetime has been spent in this community. She was well-known and loved and had the confidence of the entire community. She was converted to Christ when young and has been faithful and consistent in Christian life ever since. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. W. Curtis, assisted by Rev. S. M. Zike and Rev. A. J. Fight, at the Latter Day Saints church, and interment was in the cemetery nearby.
