Description	:	Catharine A. Walmer was born in Wayne county, Ohio, December 5, 1835, and died Monday, March 9, at her home three miles southwest of Ottumwa. In 1848 she moved with her parents to Jefferson county. July 27, 1856, she was united in marriage with William Gift at Fairfield. They made their home on a farm, south of Fairfield until after the Civil war when they moved to Ottumwa. Mr. Gift was in the Civil war. He died March 17, 1904. Walmer was born in Wayne county, Ohio, December 5, 1835, and died Monday, March 9, at her home three miles southwest of Ottumwa. In 1848 she moved with her parents to Jefferson county. July 27, 1856, she was united in marriage with William Gift at Fairfield. They made their home on a farm, south of Fairfield until after the Civil war when they moved to Ottumwa. Mr. Gift was in the Civil war. He died March 17, 1904. Mrs. Gift was the mother of eight children, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: Sarah J. Neal [Neil] of Garnett, Kansas; J.W. Gift of Mid-Lothian, Ill.; Charles W. Gift of Omaha; Pluma Belle Burton of Sedan, Kansas; Elizabeth Gift of Ottumwa; Ada C. Baum of Ottumwa and W.R. Gift at home. A brother, Anthony Walmer of Alliance, Neb,; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren also survive. In her girlhood, Mrs. Gift united with the German Lutheran church. On coming to Wapello county and not finding the church of her choice, she joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She was for forty years a member of the Zion church, south of Ottumwa and in late years transfered her membership to the Willard Street Methodist church. She was an earnest and Christian believer, a good kind woman and ever thoughtful of others. She contributed garments of her own making to the Christian Home at Council Bluffs, during recent years. The funeral was held Wednesday, March 11, at the Zion church, in charge of Rev. L.H. Lanning. Rev. D.C. Smith assisted. Interment in Zion cemetery.
