William Gift, a veteran of the civil war and one of the oldest and most successful farmers in Wapello county, died very suddenly this morning from heart failure just after getting up from the breakfast table. Mr. Gift was 76 years of age and had not been feeling well for several days but this morning appeared to be better than usual. William Gift, a veteran of the civil war and one of the oldest and most successful farmers in Wapello county, died very suddenly this morning from heart failure just after getting up from the breakfast table. Mr. Gift was 76 years of age and had not been feeling well for several days but this morning appeared to be better than usual. Mr. Gift resided in Wapello county for nearly forty years and was held in the highest esteem in the community. For many years he has been a member of the Willard Street Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Gift and several children, Sarah J., of Kansas, Joseph of St. Louis; Charles W. of Omaha; Pluma, of Thayer, Kan., Elizabeth, Ada, and Ray, who live south of the city. The funeral services will be held from the residence five miles south of the city Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R. L. Patterson, pastor of the Willard street Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Pike, officiating. Interment will be made in the Zion cemetery.
