Soles of Dutton, and a highly esteemed resident of that section, died at her home on last Friday evening. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Rev. W. J. Boyd conducted the services, which were attended by a large number of the friends and admirers of the deceased. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Rev. W. J. Boyd conducted the services, which were attended by a large number of the friends and admirers of the deceased. Mrs. Soles was a member of Locust Grove Church and a sincere christian, active in all good works. She was a woman of splendid character and strong personality, beloved and respected by hosts of friends and her loss will be severely felt in the community. Beside her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mesdames Crissie Thompson, Estelle Brown, Maude Howlett, Virginia Callis and Dora Heilman. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Mathews Journal Thurs., Mar. 2, 1922 p.8, c.3-5 In Memorium God sent his messenger of death to our home on the evening of Feb. 10, 1922, at 6:20 o'clock and took from this world of sorrow and pain to her heavenly home, the pure spirit of our loving and devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Catherine Caroline Soles. She was born in Mathews County near Soles, Va., and was the daughter of the late Edward S. and Sarah E. Sadler. She had reached the age of 65 years 10 months and 6 days and was married 46 years ago the 30th day of last Dec., to William J. Soles. She united with the Methodist Church when she was very young and for a number of years was a member of Mathews Chapel, but later had her membership changed to Locust Grove M. E. Church that being near her home. She loved her church and lived a Christian life and attended as long as her health permitted. She was kind to everybody and never seemed to tire of doing kind deeds for others. It was a pleasure for her to make others happy. For several years she was in bad health but none of the many doctors that attended her seemed to give her relief, only for a short time, but she was patient although her suffering was great. In her last sickness she was only confined to her bed three days. She was carefully attended to by her husband, her children and physician, Dr. haynes, who tried to do all in their power to restore her to health, but her work here had come to an end and God took her home to rest. She died without a struggle and with the same sweet peaceful smile she always wore. Her funeral services were conducted at the home by her pastor Rev. W. J. Boyd on Sun. Feb. 12, at 2 o'clock and the remains laid to rest in Locust Grove Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, W. J. Soles, five daughters, Mesdames H. G. Thompson, W. S. Brown, J. H. Howlette, J. Ray Callis and Ray R. Heilman; one adopted son, Charlie R. Daniel; one brother, W. E. Sadler and nine grandchildren. All her sufferings of this world forever over; gone to meet her loved ones that have gone before and to await them around the throne of God for the coming of her loved ones and friends here on earth. Loved in life, in death remembered. dear mother, kind and true, loved by those who knew her and kind to all she knew. None but a husband knows How hard it is to part. But the memory of our loved one Will be fresh forever in our hearts. Far from this world of toil and strife, You're present with the Lord. The labors of your mortal life Ended in large reward. There is a world above Where parting is unknown. We hope to meet you there In that heavenly home. Sleep on dear Mother, Take thy rest. We need you here, But God thought it best. A few more years may roll past, A few more seasons come And we shall be with you at rest, Asleep within the tomb. ~Her devoted husband and children.
