Jr. OBITUARY, The Anthon Herald, 25 October 1944, page 1: Following a long illness, Mrs. J. J. Rourke passed away peacefully at 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 1944, at her home in Anthon at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 5 days. Mrs. Rourke had not enjoyed good health since she was injured in an auto accident during the spring of 1934. While her condition had been serious for some time, she prayed that she might see her younger son, Jack, serving with the U. S. Navy, once more before the eternal summons came. When that wish was granted her, the end came speedily, and her son was granted an extension of leave so that he could be at the bedside during her last hours. Catherine Emily Jerman, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Jerman of Lucky Valley. She was reared west of Anthon and resided there with her parents until her marriage during the year 1899 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church to J. J. Rourke. After farming in the Lucky Valley vicinity twenty-two years, the Rourkes purchased a home in the north part of Anthon, and they resided there the remainder of their lives. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Rourke was active in church circles as long as her health permitted and served as president of St. Joseph's Altar Society several years. She was a loyal member of the Anthon Women's Club over o long period. Mr. and Mrs. Rourke were blessed with eight children, all of whom survive; Ivan Rourke, Mrs. Bernice Carr and Mrs. Rita O'Connell, all of Anthon, Mrs. Bernadine Marfisi of Omaha, Mrs. Kathleen Hudgel of Fort Lewis, Washington, Mrs. Moyna Cook of San Francisco, Jack Rourke, Radarman 3rd Class, U. S. Navy, and Mrs. Muriel Downing of Norfolk, Virginia. Other survivors include her aged mother, Mrs. Mary Jerman of Ute, two brothers, Oliver Jerman of Anthon and Walter Jerman of Ute, a sister, Mrs. Lucy Beebe of Louisville, Kentucky, and eleven grandchildren. Her father and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Galvin and Mrs. Myrtle Sullivan, preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 1944, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church by Rev. A. Conlon and burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery beside her husband. Arrangements were under the direction of Hudgel's Funeral Service.
