Catherine Hart was born in Manhattan, Kerkimer County, New York, April 28, 1815. She was married to the late Solomon Waterman, September 27, 1832. They removed to Tiago County, Pennsylvania, in 1836. Catherine Hart was born in Manhattan, Kerkimer County, New York, April 28, 1815. She was married to the late Solomon Waterman, September 27, 1832. They removed to Tiago County, Pennsylvania, in 1836. Eight years later they removed to Ashtabula County, Ohio. During the winter of 1872, they came to reside in Villisca. She was the oldest of a family of eleven, three sisters and one brother of whom are living. Her husband died February 11, 1877, aged 68 years, 9 months, and 1 day. To them was given a family consisting of ten children, five of whom preceded her in the life beyond. Of the five surviving children all were present at the funeral except Chas. M., who lives in Montana. Grandma Waterman was a life long member of the Universalist Church. She was a devout and earnest Christian. Her Bible bears the mark of much handling and careful study. It is a silent witness that speaks her worth and gives the secret of her fidelity to home, friends, and God. In looking through her Bible yesterday, I found it marked in many places and leaves turned down to indicate places that were especially dear to her. Those who know her, will always remember the pleasant, intelligent, dignified, mature Christian bearing she sustained at all times. The legacy of which a life as was hers was enough to commit to the keeping of loved ones to cheer them after her death and inspire them to live lives like hers, of devotion to God. Her last illness, of the most painful and excruciating bodily suffering, lasting about six weeks, was borne very patiently.
