Description	:	Charity Evans Hanger was born in North Carolina in 1828 and moved with her family to Tennessee and then to Missouri. There, she married Peter Hanger in 1845. Southern loyalists, the family fled Missouri at the end of the Civil War, traveling by wagon through Kansas and Nebraska to Colorado. After a stay of about a year in Colorado, the family returned to Douglas County, Nebraska. During flooding of the Elkhorn River in 1875, Charity saved some of her children who were at the home, but she contracted typhoid and died a short time later. Her body... After a stay of about a year in Colorado, the family returned to Douglas County, Nebraska. During flooding of the Elkhorn River in 1875, Charity saved some of her children who were at the home, but she contracted typhoid and died a short time later. Her body was carried by boat across the still-high waters and she was buried at Brittin Cemetery. Her husband and some of her children and grandchildren are also buried at Brittin.
