Description	:	Martha Jane Hanger was born October 16, 1848 in Clinton County, Missouri, oldest child of Peter and Charity Hanger. The family was staunch Southern loyalist and after the Civil War moved by wagon to Colorado. In this period, Martha met and married John Wesley Hanner. A short time later, the couple moved to the Douglas County area of Nebraska where they farmed, raised their family, and spent most of the rest of their lives. Read More	Martha Jane Hanger was born October 16, 1848 in Clinton County, Missouri, oldest child of Peter and Charity Hanger. The family was staunch Southern loyalist and after the Civil War moved by wagon to Colorado. In this period, Martha met and married John Wesley Hanner. A short time later, the couple moved to the Douglas County area of Nebraska where they farmed, raised their family, and spent most of the rest of their lives. Granddaughter Winifred Holtz described Martha as a small, dark-eyed and determined woman. Sometime shortly after 1900, John and Martha moved to Big Horn, Wyoming and operated a small ranch. On a visit to relatives in Nebraska in November 1922, Martha became ill and died. She is buried in Brittin Cemetery with her parents and a son who died in childhood.
