His granddaughter, Jeanette Warren, wrote that he was born in Virginia, his father's name was Peter Hanger and his mother's maiden name was Liptrap. Years of research failed to make the connection, although it became obvious Peter Hanger had lived in the Augusta and Bath county areas of Virginia before moving to Missouri in the early 1840s.
