Description	:	While the headstone says birth year of 1834, most all other sources support a birth year of 1836. The 1836 date concurs with the census over the years (e.g. age 14 in 1850), her obit says 1836, her age at marriage seems more likely to have been at 21 than at age 23, and she has a sister (not a twin) that was born in June of 1834. Mrs. Peter Hill died at her home near Achilles on Sunday, February 25th, 1906, after an illness of two weeks. The funeral services were held Monday and the remains were laid to rest in the Achilles cemetery. Mrs. Hill was born as Charity Mullen in Ohio, May 12, 1836. Early in life she moved to Illinois, later to Iowa and then was an early settler of Rawlins county, coming here in 1879 where she has since continued to reside. In 1858 she was united in marriage to a Mr. Crooks who was killed during the civil war while fighting for the union. The only child of this marriage, George W. Crooks, was for a number of years a resident of Rawlins county, but now living in Arizona. She was later married to J. C. Spickelmire who died in this county May 16, 1880 from the effect of a gun shot wound received while hunting antelopes with a companion. Two daughters were born to this union - Dora and Della, now Mrs. Frank and Mrs. J. B. Doyle, of Read, Colorado. June 3, 1887, she was married to Peter Hill, who still survives her. Mrs. Hill during her long residence in Rawlins county made many warm friends who were grieved to learn of her death. She was a kind neighbor, faithful wife and loving mother, loved and respected by all who knew her. To the sorrowing relatives the sympathy of a host of friends is extended. -------------- Daughter of Benjamin Mullen (b.1806) and Elizabeth (b.1807) of Delaware Co, OH, and then Cumberland Co, IL. She is likely named after this Charity Mullen. That Charity looks to be a great aunt. Her 1st husband William Crooks died in the Civil War Battle of Shiloh. She and her 2nd husband moved from Boone Co, IA to Dekalb Co, MO in 1878, then to Rawlins Co, KS in 1879. Her 2nd husband J.C. Spickelmire died from wounds suffered in a hunting accident. Family stories tell that she buried him on her land west of Achilles, KS, and that site eventually became the Achilles Cemetery.
