Description	:	Charlene Lauree Bristol was the only child born to Ralph and Clara (Cudaback) Keil at the family home on the farm three miles northeast of Fairmont, January 31, 1937. Read More	Charlene Lauree Bristol was the only child born to Ralph and Clara (Cudaback) Keil at the family home on the farm three miles northeast of Fairmont, January 31, 1937. She passed away at York General Hospital, York, on February 15, 2011, at the age of 74 years and 15 days. Charlene was baptized at the Fairmont Federated Church June 20, 1937. She grew up on her family farm and went to country school at District 27, where she was the only one in her grade. She had fond memories of her country school days and would often rider her bicycle or walk to school in good weather. She transferred to Fairmont Public School in eighth grade. Charlene was very outgoing and had many interests during her teenage years, including playing piano and playing trombone in the band. She belonged to two 4-H clubs and participated in cooking, sewing and livestock. She also taught Sunday school class when she was in high school. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1954. One Saturday summer evening, she invited a girlfriend from work in Lincoln to come home with her to Fairmont. Her girlfriend insisted on driving her convertible which was fine, because Charlene always rode the bus. They were cruising the streets of Fairmont when they met several guys form Exeter driving around. One of them happened to be David Bristol, who was home on leave serving in the Marine Corp. He was shipped out to Japan the next day for a year, but they kept in touch during that year. Charlene was united in marriage to David R. Bristol at the Fairmont Federated Church on March 23, 1957. Dave and Charlene started their married life living in Wichita, Kan., where Dave worked at Boeing. In March, 1958, they moved to the W.E. Aldrich farm, three miles northwest of Fairmont and began farming. Charlene often spoke about how growing up as an only child, she desired to have a larger family. Her wish came true, because when she married, she had three brothers-in-law, and later three sisters-in-law; and to their union, they had four children. Life on the farm with four children meant lots of hard work, and Charlene embraced it. She dedicated her life to her husband, children, and faith in God. Charlene was a member of the Fairmont Church for nearly 60 years. She juggled her duties on the farm, while nurturing her children. She never missed delivering food to Dave in the field or having home-cooked meals for her children coming home from school. She enjoyed taking her children to numerous activities through the years as well as canning sweet corn and cherries on the farm. Charlen was an active member of the Fairmont General Federated Woman's Club where she held many offices including treasurer, secretary and club president. She also served as district president, state president's home life chairman, county secretary, and most recently, the local GFWC nominating committee and District IV auditor. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Priscilla's and a birthday club. Charlene and Dave retired from farming in 2000, and moved into Fairmont in 2006. Since retirement, Charlene has enjoyed watching her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren grow up. She also enjoyed listening to music, photography, auctions, family genealogy and coffee time with her friends. Dave and Charlene have celebrated nearly 54 years of marriage together. Although she struggled with health issues throughout her life, she always remained positive. Charlene will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Clara Keil; mother and father-in-law, Roy and Avis (Crowder) Bristol; brothers- and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Bristol, John Bristol, and Robert Bristol; and step-mother, Helen Ronne Keil. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David, Children and spouses, Debra (Jeff) Adelman, Donald (Linda) Bristol, Julie Bristol, Keith (Lisa) Bristol; grandchildren, Shane Bristol, Kenneth Torczon, Kyle Torczon, Angela Bristol, Clinton Torczon, Clarissa Adelman, Brady Bristol, Laila Bristol and Leena Bristol; great-grandchildren, Kaeden Travis and Kynnedy Bristol; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Monica Bristol; sister-in-law, Winnie Bristol; aunt, Ruby Real; step-brother, Max (Karla) Ronne; many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and neighbors. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church on February 19 with the Rev. Karla Sheffy officiating. Dee Swartz accompanied Michael Bristol, who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Shane Bristol, Kenneth Torczon, Kyle Torczon, Clinton Torczon and Brady Bristol. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Angela Bristol, Clarissa Adelman, Laila Bristol, and Leena Bristol. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery at York.
