Read More	Obituary transcribed from the "Burt County Plaindealer" published in Tekamah, Nebraska dated July 24, 1941. (Heading) "Services Monday For C. A. Haswell, Tekamah Pioneer Charles A. Haswell, 82, well-known pioneer, a resident of Tekaamh(sic) and vicinity for 76 years, died at his home here Sunday morning at 2:00 o'clock. An invalid for the past seven years, his condition became critical about three months ago. Mr. Haswell's many years in this vicinity brought him considerable recognition as one of the longest time residents of Tekamah and Burt county. The major part of his life was spent in farming, but he also operated a livery stable in Tekamah at one time. He leaves in his passing many friends as well as relatives. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Schafer and Peck funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Wiesman, Lutheran pastor, officiating. Two solos, "Ivory Palaces" and "Lead Kindly Light" which were special requests, were sung by Mrs. Gertrude Brune, who was accompanied by Mrs. Rachel Holmquist. Interment was in the Advent cemetery northwest of Tekamah. Charles A. Haswell was the son of Charles and Rosanna Haswell and was born in Hustisford, Wisconson, March 25,1859. He came to Nebraska in 1865 with his parents, who settled on a ranch northeast of Tekamah. He was married to Ilona J. Sparling in 1889, and to the couple was born two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive. He was a kindhearted and generous person; one who gained many friends. Seven years ago Mr. Haswell suffered a paralytic stroke, and was an invalid from then until his death. About the first of May, this year, his illness became critical, resulting in his complete helplessness. Surviving are two sons, Earl of Tekamah and George of Potter Valley, Cal.; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Woolheater of Tekamah; two brothers, Samuel and Merton of Tekamah, and eleven grandchildren.
