The article was copied at the Nebraska State Historical Society by Harold Haswell in May 1997. "Joseph Earl Haswell was born February 7, 1876 and departed this life Saturday, Oct. 26, 1912 aged 36 years, 8 months and 19 days, having spent his entire life in Burt county. He was converted in 1895 and has been a faithful follower of Christ and a consistent member of the Riverside Baptist church. On November 2, 1898 he married Miss Ida Gorey to which union were born four children, two sons and two daughters. Besides his wife and children he is survived by his mother and four brothers, Fremont, Charles and Samuel of Burt County and Merton of Pierce county. Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p. m. in the Advent church near his home, conducted by Rev. C. H. Bancroft of the Riverside church. Music was rendered by the Riverside choir assisted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Brown of Chicago. Many flowers and a company of friends too large to be contained in the church paid tribute to his memory. The burial was in the adjoining cemetary (sic) where his father was already laid at rest. No one could have made a more heroic fight for life that did our brother and few indeed would have worked so well and filled his place in the home and community when afflicted by a disease as he had been for the past twelve years."
