OBITUARY THE CHARITON PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, November 19, 1953 Charles Albert Foster, son of John Y. and Lydia Jane Garrett Foster, was born on a farm near Elbing, Kans., Aug. 29, 1881, and departed this life Nov. 14, 1953, at the age of 72 years, two months and 16 days. When Charlie was a small child, his mother passed away leaving the father with four little children. The family came to Lucas county to the paternal grandparents home, the late Ephraim Fosters, and remained there until the spring of 1892 when the father purchased a farm for his family near the Zion school house. Most of his early life was spent in farming in Iowa and Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Eugenia Swanson March 11, 1917, at the Simpson Methodist parsonage in Des Moines, where they have since resided. To this union, two daughters were born, Jessie May and Mary Jane, both passing away shortly after birth. He had a kind and friendly disposition, always ready to help a friend or neighbor in time of need. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Eugenia, a brother, William E. of St. Edward, Neb., numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Thos preceding him in death besides his children are his parents, one brother, Lewis and two sisters, Clara Anderson and Jessie Foster. Funeral services were conducted at the Zion church by the Rev. Robert Kem of Des Moines and interment was at the Zion cemetery. Mealey, C.W. Croft, Mrs. Letta Maddy, Miss Chloe Buzzard, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Linfor, Mrs. John Shore and Mr. and Mrs. James Jordan all of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Baker of Osceola; Rhoda Brown and Mrs. Esther Patterson and Donna, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Foster of St. Edwards, Nebr.; and O.T. Anderson of Galesburg, Ill.
