Foster, life long resident of Lucas county, died at his home in Williamson, Iowa, on Monday morning, June 3, 1935, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 21 days., after a very brief illness. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Archie Beals, of Russell, were held at the Community church in Williamson on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was in Zion cemetery. John Y. Foster, son of Ephraim and Isabel Harding Foster, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on Novemeber 13, 1855. He grew to young manhood in the vicinity of his birth and on December 27, 1878, was united in marriage to Lydia Jane Garrett, who preceded him in death on March 9, 1885. To this union five children were born, three of whom are living. They are William E. Foster, of St. Edward, Nebr.; Mrs. Clara Anderson of Galesburg, Ill.; and Charles A. Foster of Des Moines. A daughter, Jessie, preceded him in death in 1898, and a son, Lewis, died in infancy. Mr. Foster was married to Emmaretta Shore in January 1907, and for many years they have made their home in Williamson. He was converted and united with the Methodist church late in life. He has been a leader and a staunch supporter in the church of his choice. He has stood in the forefront in all the perplexing problems of the Williamson Community church, guiding it by wise counsel through its deepest discouragements. In his death the church has lost its most able counselor, the community one of its best citizens. He has served as mayor of Williamson and in other official capacities. Besides his wife, two sons and one daughter he is survived by two brothers and two sisters; Albert A. Foster of Chariton; Ezra E. Foster of Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Cornelia Fluke of Plainview, Texas; and Mrs. Mary Weiford of Chariton.
