During his late years he... Read More	SCHMIDT, CHARLES A.—Charles A. Schmidt was born June 8, 1905, in Madison township to Henry and Mary Schmidt. He died October 6, 1980, at the age of 75 years. Charles grew up on the family farm. After attending District No. 68, and graduating from Geneva high school in 1925, he returned to full time farming. On February 9, 1932, Charles was married to Agnes Bures. They were blessed with five children: Roger, Robert, Dennis, Sonja and Susan. His adult life was dedicated to farming and raising his family. During his late years he continued to be involved in farming activities, as well as enjoying his nine grandchildren. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and following sports on TV and radio. Charles was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, a past member of the Soil and Water Conservation board and a member of the Geneva Community Grange. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ella and Emma; one brother, Otto; his wife, Agnes; and son, Robert. He is survived by his two sons, Roger Schmidt and wife, Dixie of Fairmont, and Dennis Schmidt and wife, Linda, of Geneva; two daughters, Sonja Yates and husband Bill, of Geneva and Susan Hansen, and husband, Marlin of Battle Creek. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Marshal Hinds on Thursday, October 9, 1980, at the First Congregational Church in Geneva. The organist was Mrs. Norval Lomax and the vocalist was Dan Petersen, who sang “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Pallbearers were Frank Bures, Frank Domling, William Novak, Cleo H. Rabbe, Erwin E. Schmidt, and Darien Thomsen. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 16 October 1980 page 5.
