Schmidt passed away at his home in Fairmont, Neb., Tuesday, October 23, 1962, aged 63 years, 3 months and 2 days. He was working in the yard at his new residence when he suffered a fatal heart attack. Mr. Schmidt was born on a farm near Geneva July 21, 1899. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Schmidt, pioneer settlers in Madison township. He grew up on the home farm. He was united in marriage to Mae Novak May 14, 1927. He and his wife moved to a farm northwest of Fairmont on the Blue River. He spent his entire married life there until the spring of 1962, when he and his wife retired and moved to Fairmont. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Fairmont I.O.O.F. lodge. He untied with the Fairmont Methodist church in 1944, and was a faithful member. He is survived by his wife, his mother, who resides in Fairmont; two brothers, Edward and Charles and a sister, Mrs. Ella Bures, all of Geneva, and many relatives and friends who mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Emma, at the age of 12, and his father. Funeral services were conducted from Grace Methodist church in Fairmont at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 25, Rev. Robert Barger officiating. Janyce Gangstad sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Rex Plock was accompanist. Pallbearers were Perry Arbuck, Harley Fassnacht, Clyde Jacobsen, Everett Nichols, Wesley J. Roberts and Ralph Schoch. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery. Nebraska Signal November 1st, 1962 page 4. ALSO: Otto C. Schmidt, 63, died unexpectedly at his home at Fairmont Tuesday afternoon, October 23, 1962. He had been working at the home putting up storm windows and when he went into the house, he sat down, stating he didn't fell well. He passed away shortly after making the statement, it was reported. Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt farmed many years north of Fairmont. They retired a few months ag, moving into their new home in Fairmont. Among the survivors are his wife, Mae; his mother, Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Geneva, a resident of the Fairmont Nursing Home; a sister, Mrs. Ella Bures of Geneva; two brothers, Charles of near Geneva and Edward of Geneva. Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, October 25, at 2 p.m. from Grace Methodist church of Fairmont with Rev. Robert Barger officiating. Interment will be in the Fairmont cemetery.
