Conant, lifelong Greene county resident, were conducted from the Churdan Baptist church Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Highland township cemetery. The Rev. George C. Foster spoke words of comfort. Mrs. Niles Wittforth and Mrs. Alta Fiack sang "Sweet Bye and Bye" and "We Are Going Down The Valley," accompanied by Mrs. P.E. Lohr. Casket Bearers were Chancy Stream, C.F. West. Alta Fiack, Jess Lorentsen, W.C. West and Floyd Hunter. Charles Augustus Conant was born in Sun Prairie, Dane, County, Wis., on Sept 25, 1868, and departed from this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Curtis near Churdan, at the age of 85 years, two months and 11 days. When he was 13 months old his parents moved to Greene county, Iowa, locating on a farm in Bristol township. He spent his boyhood days in the Farlin community. On March 25, 1899 he was untied in marriage to Rebecca Kloss. To this union were born three children, Mildred Faye, who died at the age of eight months; Clyde Everett of Newell, and Marian Elisabeth, now Mrs. Harold Curtis of Churdan. After they were married they spent five happy years together farming near the following places, Minburn, Farlin and Churdan. In 1904 they moved to Churdan where they lived with the exception of two years which were spent in Utah. After returning to Churdan he was employed in general stores, later going into the Café business. He remained in Churdan a few years after the death of his wife, who passed away March 14, 1934, and lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Conant. His later years were spent in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Curtis. He gave his life to Christ in early manhood. His faith in God was exemplified daily in his perfect trust in him. He had been a faithful many years and faithfully attended until failing health prevented him. He was also a member of the IOOF Aerial Lodge No. 354, the Rebekah Lodge and Masonic order. His parents, four sisters and two brothers precede him in death, he being the last and oldest surviving member of his family.
