The Rev John Swoyer, pastor of the church, officiated. Rochelle Guess was musician, accompanied by Renaye Lindgren. There was also congregational singing. Honorary casket bearers were Sheryl Rice, Cathy Curtis, Shonda Crooks, Jill Fischer, Sharla Paup and Becky Curtis. Curtis, the daughter of Charles and Rebecca Kloss Conant, was born Aug. 22, 1906, at Churdan. She died July 23, 1995, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Marian Conant was raised in Churdan and attended and graduated from Churdan High School in 1925. During school she was part of the 1925 Churdan girls' basketball team. Following high school Marian took a normal training course for teachers and later taught in a country school west of Churdan until her marriage. On June 10, 1928, Marian Conant was united in marriage to Harold Curtis in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. To this union were born two children, Marjorie and Charles. After their marriage Harold and Marian farmed various farms in the Churdan area, and in 1944 moved to their present farm west of Churdan. In 1976 Harold Curtis died and Marian continued to make her home on the family farm until May of 1991, when due to failing health she became a resident of the long term care facility at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Marian Curtis was an active member of First Baptist Church in Churdan and a member of American Baptist Women. She was also a member of the Brevity Club. She attended 49 state girls' basketball tournaments in her lifetime. Survivors include her two children, Marjorie and her husband Dwayne Fiscus and Charles and his wife Lois, all of Churdan, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding her in dearth were her parents; husband; one brother, Clyde; and a sister, Mildred, in infancy.
